Quimera Energy to optimise energy demand and reduce costs for Melia Hotels
Pioneering project utilizing the new Monitor & Save service within Quimera’s Hotels Sustainability Solutions portfolio.
Quimera has recently begun collaboration with Melia Hotels International on a project to reduce the consumption of energy and associated costs in its flagship ME Hotel in Barcelona. This is part of Quimera’s new Monitor & Save service, offered to the hospitality industry (as well as other sectors) in order to optimize the efficient use of energy. The project includes the implementation of a smart metering system that will provide permanent monitoring of the various energy demands of the building.
Our model is based on shared savings from reduced energy costs, thus aligning our interests with those of our partners. This also ensures that our commitment to the project goes beyond the advisory stage, with the successful deployment of identified energy optimization initiatives being our main priority.
Over the last ten years the cost of energy consumption in a typical hotel has risen from approximately 3-4% of overall operating costs to almost 10%. Also on the rise is an increasing number of tour operators who are seeking compliance with energy efficiency and environmental standards due to the growing awareness and demands of their clients.
For these reasons Quimera has added Monitor & Save to its Hotels Sustainability Solutions (HSS) portfolio. This new service is based on the monitoring and analysis of energy consumption in hotel establishments. Through proper data management we aim to facilitate the identification of energy efficiency improvement initiatives in order to reduce energy demand and expenditure.
The process begins with an analysis of historical energy consumption data, taking into account factors such as hotel occupation and climate (in accordance with international standards such as EVO’s International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol – IPMVP). This helps to establish a baseline from which improvement initiatives can then be assessed.
All this also includes the possibility of raising modality for ESCO projects in order to facilitate the financing of those actions that require investment.
